Philip Glass is a god.
Kule Kule - Jherek Bischoff
Kule Kule (Orchestral Version) - Jherek Bischoff
Goddamn. This whole album is magnificent.
Benh Zeitlin and Dan Romer are my new favorite composers. Why? Just listen. If it doesn’t give you a sense of frisson, or fill you with hope / bravery to conquer things bigger than yourself, then you aren’t human.
P.S. You must go watch Beasts of the Southern Wild, especially if you’re having a shitty day, or just feeling emotional. You’ll walk out of that theater feeling completely uplifted.
After watching Beasts of the Southern Wild twice, I knew the soundtrack sounded very familiar. It just occurred to me all of a sudden that it sounds a lot like Death to the Tinman. No wonder. Benh Zeitlin, the composer of Tinman’s soundtrack is also the director and composer for Beasts.
Knee 4 - Philip Glass
I’m currently captivated by Einstein on the Beach, an avant-garde opera that Philip Glass wrote and scored back in the 1970s.
I love how @5:40 the woman says “My father was a heavy smoker and Einstein was very long without an intermission and my father sat there throughout the whole thing….which was amazing, and then at the end of it when people were standing and clapping and cheering I just looked at him and there was tears….it was quite amazing.” That’s really saying something.
Philip Glass. I first found out about him through Leonard Cohen. I unfortunately only have a few of his precious orchestrations and this isn’t one of them. Time for some downloadin’
